1950's Swing Boat
This model is the 3.19 Swing Boat from a 1950 No 3 set. It was fun to build even though the instructions are limited. Once I got the hang of how to adjust it it started working. I wasn't sure the thin rubber tires would hold the perf strips securely but it does. I didn't like the boat so I built my own version. This might account for why the boat is always hitting the uprights and the crank. But I don't really think so.
I decided to make my own version of the swing boat. I wanted it to be much more stable and motor driven. I insisted on using a Meccano motor which made the task more difficult than expected.
Discovery Kids Helicopter
I was shopping in a discount store and came across a Meccano-like helicopter model from Discovery Kids. Although it was made in China I decided to buy it because it was inexpensive and had curved strips I thought were interesting. It is like a part 90 except it has a single long slot instead of holes.
The finished model. It took about 40 minutes and was easy and fun. There were 1 nut and 1 bolt extra. I used the extra nut to double nut the propeller so it would spin without the nut coming loose.
