Painting Equipment
Before buying any equipment I spent several weeks researching what was available to get the job done. The Internet just blows me away at times with the amount of information out there. I logged on to several Manufacturers, sources of sales such as Amazon and eBay and watched countless u-tube videos on the subject. There are many excellent How-To videos as well.
But in the end I was more confused than ever as I now had too much information and needed to sort it all out. So, the next step was to hit the hobby shops and do the touchy-feely-hands-on thing, all the while picking brains of the sales people to see if there was a common denominator to my problem. Actually this was time well spent and I was impressed with the product knowledge of most of the people I had spoken too.
A local hobby shop owner who has been in the business for the last 30 years advised me on the different paints, thinners, cleaners, etc. that I may require in the future.
In the end it pays to do a little homework before you let the moths out of your wallet. Have I made the right choice for what I want to do - time will tell.

Air Brush
Paasche Model H Airbrush
For my particular purpose of repainting Meccano parts I was advised to go with this model by a very well informed representative at KMS Tools in Coquitlam. It features a Brass Body and Nickel Silver Color Part, simplicity of design and ease of use. (now we're talking) It is Single Stage and comes with two glass paint jars (good idea to get extras for the various colours of paint you may want on hand) as well as a paint bowl. The air and colour feeds are independent and adjustable to give a fixed line, shade or stipple effect, not that I will need any of those. Also included in the set is a Brush Holder, Allen Key and 3 sets of Needles & Nozzles. And, for dummy's like me, an instruction book on how to use the darn thing, plus the regular Parts List and Manual.
The button is smooth and the handle is very comfortable to hold and operate.

Compressor
This is the Makita Model AC001 Oil Free Air Compressor I opted for. There were several similar units on display but this one had a sturdy 'roll cage' frame with a good carrying handle which makes it ideal for me as I will be taking this along in my motor home for when the weather turns on me. It is very well made and super quiet and with the 1 gallon air tank it hardly comes on when painting. The gauges are easily seen and accurate and the quick disconnect hose connection is always a good thing to have.
This is a piston driven compressor with a 32 mm Bore and 11 mm Stroke. Air Tank Valve is located at lower front of tank.
The Motor specs are as follows:
1/6 hp @ 3400 rpm - 120 vac and only draws 1.8 amps - Capacitor Start
SCFM @ 40 PSIG --- 0.58
SCFM @ 90 PSIG --- 0.45
Cut-In Pressure ---- 95 PSI
Cut-Out Pressure - 125 PSI
Regulator Pressure - Fully Adjustable
